2019 Hoyt Helix - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

This is going to be a quick one… You may have seen our way too early review of the RX-3 a few weeks back. Well most of the features and impressions from that review carry over because the only difference between these bows (aside from their risers) is their grips. That and the fact the Helix is only offered in 30” axle-to-axle standard or 34”axle-to-axle Ultra models. Hoyt decided to limit their turbo offering to the RX-3 line for 2019.     Helix 342 FPS (ATA)               30½" Axle-to-Axle 6" Brace Height 4.3 lbs   RX-3 342 FPS (ATA) 30½" Axle-to-Axle...

2019 PSE Evoke 31 First Impressions

Right off the bat I will admit I have never been drawn to PSE bows. I can’t explain it but they just have never held any sort of allure for me. I know they have been making fast, accurate, and all around quality bows for quite some time I just never shot with anyone who was a die-hard PSE shooter. But after trying last year’s 2018 Evolve and now the 2019 Evoke, I now wonder if maybe I just need to expand the variety of shooters I hang with. Levi Morgan Posts Prototype Sure-Loc Carbonic Hunting Sight

For almost a year we have been hearing about Sure-Loc’s new bow sight. Pictures of the target model have been floating around the internet and up on Sure-Loc’s website for months but the above photo is the first we have seen of the prototype prototype hunting sight. For those unfamiliar with this sight, this new sight is dubbed the Carbonic after the unique carbon wrapped aluminum dovetail and tower. Sure-loc reportedly solicited design input from John Dudley and Levi Morgan who at this point are unarguably two of the best archers on the planet and have been at the apex of...

Ex-Okie Custom Knobs

Hand held release aids are becoming increasingly modular straight from the factory but when it comes to the thumb knobs themselves what you see is usually what you get. Fortunately for us Ex-Okie Custom Knobs manufacture some of the highest quality aluminum or brass knobs on the market. Owned and operated by retiree couple Barbara and Vernie Broyles, Ex-Okie knobs are available in medium or coarse knurl, and in a variety of sizes up to 1” in diameter (3/8” and ½” being their most popular sellers for hinge or resistance releases and 3/4" their most popular for thumb triggers). After...

On the Hinge

Recently I found my shooting had plateaued. I was consistently shooting 285/300 Vegas rounds with my hunting setup but I knew I could do better. On video my shooting looked pretty good. Even the pro’s I reached out to in my local shop told me I should be happy with my scores considering I was shooting a 30” ATA hunting setup at 70#. But EFFFFF that! With the precision of modern bows and all of the information and techniques available at our disposal I don’t want be just another hunter who can hold a 3” group at 40yards. I want...
